Greg Wacasey, OD – TearCare System

Look & Feel Your Best with TearCare

TearCare is an FDA-cleared in-office procedure that treats meibomian gland dysfunction related to dry eye. TearCare provides a 15-minute spa-like experience that uses a software-controlled, wearable eyelid technology to deliver targeted thermal energy to the meibomian glands.

This therapeutic heat enables deep gland expression to remove the obstruction of the meibomian glands, restore function back to the meibomian glands, and address the underlying cause of evaporative dry eye.

Instructions Prior to Your Treatment

Before your TearCare appointment, there are some instructions our team will communicate to you, including:

  • No eye makeup or mascara on the day of the appointment. It’s okay to put your makeup on after your appointment.
  • No contact lens wear the day of your appointment. Please bring your glasses.

We encourage you to use all your regular eye drops, prescription or over-the-counter, prior to and after the appointment.

Please inform our office before the appointment if you have any known allergies to silicone tissue adhesives or have a pacemaker. It’s okay to drive after your TearCare appointment in most cases.

Following your treatment you may experience:

  • Eye redness immediately following the treatment.
  • A gritty or more dry feeling in your eyes. This can be expected as your glands have been cleared, and it can take a week for them to produce healthy oil again.

At Eye Care for East Texas, we understand that beauty starts with healthy eyes. The benefits of TearCare extend far beyond relief from dry eye symptoms. By improving the overall health and hydration of your eyes, TearCare can also:

  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Minimize puffiness and redness
  • Promote healthier, fuller eyelashes

IRPL & Dry Eye

While an intense regulated pulsed light therapy (IRPL) treatment can help firm and smooth the skin, it is also a treatment option for dry eye therapy. IRPL works to target dry eye by using heat on the meibomian gland area. This heat helps to unclog the glands and stimulate oil production in the tear film.

This can help provide relief from dry eye symptoms and help with normal meibomian gland function.

Our Medical Aesthetic Treatments

Our treatment options target different concerns and are all slightly different in their approach.

All of our medical aesthetic treatments require little downtime so that you can be back to your daily activities shortly after your appointment. You may require more than one session to achieve your individual goals, so talk to us today about what you wish to achieve, and we can discuss how we can help.

Intense Regulated Pulsed Light Therapy

Intense regulated pulsed light (IRPL) therapy is a treatment method that uses different wavelengths of light to achieve aesthetic goals.

IRPL can help with many different skin concerns, such as age spots, sun damage, wrinkles, hair removal, and rosacea, and it works by penetrating the second layer of skin without harming the top layer. IRPL also uses heat to remove pigment cells or hair during treatment, leaving skin smooth.

Radiofrequency (RF) is a method of tightening the skin that doesn’t involve surgery. RF works by using radio frequency waves to heat the deep layer of skin to help with the production of collagen.

When we lose collagen in the skin with age, skin can look less firm, and wrinkles can appear. RF helps to restore the skin’s natural collagen and provides a tightening effect.

Red light therapy is a treatment that utilizes low-wavelength red light to target wrinkles, scars, acne, redness, and other skin concerns.

Red light therapy works by being absorbed by the cells of the skin to produce collagen, circulate blood, and reduce inflammation.
